Mike

A Natural Leader

Courage & Intelligence

Michael Casey is a natural leader who has demonstrated his integrity and commitment to America through three decades of honorable service in the U.S. Army. Born into a hardworking Catholic family in Springfield, Massachusetts, he learned the value of civic engagement from his parents, who were actively involved in Republican politics. Michael graduated West Springfield high school in 1976, where he met his future wife, Theresa. They are happily married after 37 years, with two sons and one daughter.

Expanding his education and giving back to his country have been constant features in Mike’s life. He received a Bachelor’s degree in government in 1980 at the University of Notre Dame, where he also joined the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). Upon his graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, where he began his honorable service to the country.

As a part of his military education, Mike graduated from the Command and General Staff Officer’s Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he was awarded a Master’s in Strategic Studies. Mike also continued his civilian education, receiving a Master’s in Public Administration from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership degree from the University of Phoenix in Arizona.

Leadership

Mike repeatedly demonstrated his devotion to national security during his years in active and reserve components in the U.S. Army, in both the Field Artillery and personnel branches in the United States and in Germany.

He was entrusted with highly sensitive duties serving with the United States Army Special Operations Command, and at the Headquarters, U.S. Central Command, where he held the country’s highest security clearance.

His leadership and commitment to service did not go unnoticed. He earned several military awards, including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. Exhibiting an enthusiasm for stretching beyond his comfort zone, he also earned the Parachutist and Air Assault badges.

accessibility

Dr. Casey first moved to Minnesota when he was appointed as the Command Inspector General at the 88th Regional Readiness Command in Ft. Snelling, MN from 2004 until 2009. There, he displayed his ability to lead and make tough decisions in the best interest of the U.S. Army by applying his analytical skills to improving the readiness of combat units going to war and enhancing the systems used by the Inspector General’s office.

In 2009, he retired at the rank of Colonel but Mike was not finished giving back to the country he spent three decades protecting. He moved to Chicago where he served for five years as the Senior Army Instructor for Morgan Park High School—part of the Chicago public school system. This award-winning program helped shape young leaders.

Longing to return to the North Star State, he moved back to Woodbury, Minnesota in January 2017 and completed his third Master’s degree, this time in Pastoral Leadership from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. As a man of deep conviction and commitment—values he learned early in life from his parents—he took on the role of Director of Faith Formation at the Church of St. William in Fridley, where he currently teaches the Catholic faith to adults and students. He also works as a licensed agent for an insurance company.

Commitment

Michael Casey is a devoted husband and father, and a man faithful to both God and country. With a lifetime spent making tough decisions in leadership roles, he has demonstrated the kind of work and personal ethics that would benefit America and his constituents in Minnesota’s Fourth Congressional District, who he hopes to serve.
